Welcome to the City of London Academy – Islington’s website.  The Academy is a mixed Academy for students aged 11 to 16 years (11 – 18 from 2010).  There are approximately 845 students at the Academy.  The student population is rich in cultural and linguistic diversity with over 40 different languages being spoken. In addition to English, the main other languages are Turkish and Somali. We are an inclusive Academy.

The Academy is specialist in Business and Enterprise which reflects the skills that the sponsors bring to the Academy – the sponsors being the City of London Corporation and City University London.  We are a community academy which aims to serve its community well. We have an innovative and forward looking approach which is captured in the Academy’s Vision.  We aim to be on the edge of educational developments. Our motto ‘Where Students Succeed’ encapsulates our belief that students have the right to succeed. 

At the City of London Academy – Islington (COLA-I), we have formed our staffing structure into strong collaborative teams.  This ensures that staff get to know the students as individuals, in addition to providing students with extensive opportunities in and out of the classroom. We have placed teaching and learning at the heart of what we do and by reminding all who enter our site that learning is exciting.  COLA-I is an Academy with a highly dedicated and hard working team of staff. The students have shown themselves to be willing and capable of succeeding and are enriched by the Academy’s extensive offer.

We are all looking forward to the completion of the new Academy building which is due to be completed for April 2010.  We support all our students and ensure that they achieve their full potential and the new enhanced technologies which the new building will bring will ensure we can build on our current successes.  We will increase our roll to provide post-16 provision in 2010 and we are eagerly anticipating sharing the facilities with Richard Cloudesley in 2011.

We have established support and partnerships with two high profile sponsor organisations that are committed to ensuring the Academy is known for its’ outstanding practice.  We are proud of what we are creating and are increasingly excited about the future – a future we would like you to share with us.
